Education was not confined to theory but it was pragmatic and yet idealistic. It was considered a luxury to get the right master and yet critical for the survival of a man in the society.
Today, we have no dearth of teachers, students and educational institutes, still the question remains unanswered “Are we progressing as a society, nation and as a human race or just passing the buck to the next generation whom we have not given a solid base of education congenial to its real growth?” Are we doing enough to create a healthy and happy society or enhancing the rat race of securing degrees and diplomas? There are hundreds of such questions full of ambiguity which need attention.
We call upon all who have great ideas to bring the change in our education system for a better today and tomorrow.
We aim at showcasing the genuine concerns in our education system based on the facts observed over many decades now. Following burning questions and concerns seek serious contemplation:
Loose Marking policy and promoting all have degraded the entire system and has increased the competition. Today, securing 95-99% are no big deals. But the question arises, what would happen to the mediocre and below? Marks and memory-based performance has crippled the career choices and future scope.
Class rooms are overcrowded and teacher- students’ ratio is poor leading to a superficial teaching in the classroom. Students’ interest level in the subject is going down day by day. Who is to be blamed? Teachers, students, or the educational policies?
Our senior secondary schooling system was primarily aimed at giving the students only three choices - Arts, Science and Commerce. Business Management was added as another option recently along with a couple of more. But there could be hundred other career options catering different facets of livelihood which are never talked about. Why?
Parents’ expectations soar higher based on the false promises of success given by these private money minting coaching centers.
It’s a discouraging fact that the future remains uncertain and the youth is anxious. Teachers and the students have no clue of success even after investing 15 years in studies in formal education in our country.
While it’s great to see that the numbers of schools, colleges, teachers, students and coaching centers are increasing day by day but then why the quality of education is going in the reverse direction?
The current system doesn’t train the students for the competitive exams. Parents have to resort to outside coaching specially meant for these exams. This encourages private coaching for JEE/ NEET/ CA/ CS/ IIT etc. Students and parents have to exert extra time, money, effort and fee for the coaching, the results of which are still not guaranteed. Shouldn’t there be some strict policies on the fee/donation and the eligibility criteria?
National ranking and online reviews have become the craze. Each institute is running after improving the national ranking based on the students’ results. They don’t hesitate in manipulating the marks to show better results than their peers and create a false name in the educational world. It attracts more students. More students mean more income generation which creates wealth for the education mafia. Role of our education policies is questionable here.
After investing lacs of rupees and thousands of hours in these coaching institutes, students still lack the in-depth knowledge of the subject. This leads to the pressure of performance, some experience anxiety attacks and some students get into depression, while some highly sensitive ones resort to suicide.
When the society makes the material gains as its prime goal and puts all its resources to achieve that goal, the disintegration of the family, society and nation is not far leading to question our policies and thought process related to our concurrent educational system.
We as a society are determined to bring honesty and integrity on the front row and reward the deserving ones to their highest honour. Let us all unite to bring the required reforms for the best of brains to bloom and make this country proud.
